Donna ISD Schools Celebrate $26,000 Fitness Grants with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremonies

DONNA, TX — Two Donna ISD schools are taking bold steps toward promoting student health and wellness with the help of $26,000 Project Fit America (PFA) grants awarded to J.W. Caceres Intermediate Discovery Academy and C. Stainke Elementary. The grants, funded by the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation, were celebrated during Opening Day Kickoff and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremonies held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
The funding has enabled the schools to purchase state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor fitness equipment, implement a dynamic curriculum of games and activities, and provide teacher training on-site. The initiative also includes classroom lessons on nutrition, understanding the human body, and fostering social-emotional leadership skills.
Students eagerly showcased the newly acquired fitness equipment during the ceremonies, which featured special remarks by Donna ISD Superintendent Dr. Angela Dominguez, members of the Board of Trustees, a representative from the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation, and other distinguished guests.
The events took place at:
- 8:30 a.m. at J.W. Caceres Intermediate Discovery Academy, 503 South Hutto Rd, Donna
- 10:00 a.m. at C. Stainke Elementary, 1309 South Avenue, Donna
The Project Fit America program aims to cultivate physically educated children who take an active role in managing their health. Both Caceres and Stainke were chosen to receive the grant after a competitive proposal process involving schools across Cameron, Starr, Hidalgo, and Willacy counties.
“Thanks to the support of the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation, this program will inspire our students to lead healthier, more active lives,” said Dr. Dominguez.
PFA, a nonprofit dedicated to revolutionizing fitness education in elementary and middle schools nationwide, designed the grants to seamlessly integrate fitness activities into physical education programs. For students at Caceres and Stainke, this initiative represents an exciting new chapter in their journey toward lifelong wellness.
