Special to The Donna News
M. Rivas Primary Discovery Academy, a beacon of excellence within the Donna Independent School District, has been named the winner of the H-E-B Excellence in Education Early Childhood Award. The prestigious honor, announced on May 5th at the 22nd Annual H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards Ceremony in Houston, recognizes M. Rivas’ innovative approach to nurturing young minds.
M. Rivas stood out from a competitive pool of five outstanding early childhood programs across the state. “We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition,” said M. Rivas Principal Rosalinda Navarro. “This award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire M. Rivas family – our teachers, staff, administrators, and families who create a nurturing and stimulating environment for our youngest learners.”
The center’s innovative approach includes a Dual Language curriculum which fosters a holistic learning environment. “The Dual Language program allows us to cultivate a holistic learning environment where our students can grow in all areas,” Principal Navarro continued. “By integrating two languages throughout the curriculum, we not only foster strong academic skills in both languages, but also social-emotional, physical, academic and language development, equipping our young learners with the essential skills they need to succeed throughout their academic journey.”
Donna ISD Superintendent Dr. Angela Dominguez echoed the sentiment, highlighting the significance of M. Rivas’ achievement. “M. Rivas Primary Discovery Academy serves as a shining example of the transformative power of high-quality early childhood education,” Dr. Dominguez stated. “Their commitment to nurturing the future leaders of Donna ISD through innovative programs is truly commendable. This well-deserved recognition is a testament to the passion and dedication of the entire M. Rivas team.”
This award comes with a significant financial boost – a $25,000 grand prize and an additional $5,000 for being selected as a state finalist. Looking ahead, the funding will be used to further strengthen M. Rivas’ innovative programs and resources.
“We are incredibly proud of M. Rivas Primary Discovery Academy,” Dr. Dominguez concluded. “Their passion for early childhood education sets the stage for a lifetime of learning for our youngest minds, and we are excited to see the remarkable things they will continue to achieve.”
