Retired Donna ISD teacher, Elizabeth Ann Sutton passes away
Elizabeth Ann Sutton, also known throughout most of her life as Betsy Bridges and Betsy
Hemphill, passed on March 15th, 2023 from complications due to pulmonary fibrosis, in
Weslaco, TX.
Ms. Sutton was born in Stratton, Nebraska, in 1938, and is preceded in death by her parents,
Mason and Virginia Bridges, and husbands Charley Kempthorne, Larry D. Hemphill, and George
E. Sutton.
Elizabeth earned her Bachelor of Science at Kansas State University, where she was also a
member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, and earned her Graduate Degree in Teaching at Washburn
University. She spent much of her life as an educator in the Independent School Systems in
Kansas and Texas. Before her retirement she worked in the Donna ISD.
With her husband, Larry, she also owned and managed the Bluebird Bus Distributorship for the
state of Texas from 1974-1993.
She is survived by sons Mason Hemphill (Susan), Allen Hemphill (Lori), daughter Annie Zarcoff,
and grandchildren Kyle, Kelvin, and Harper Hemphill.
