Bravettes cage Edinburg Economedes Jaguars

DONNA — The Bravettes settled into their stategy after Edinburg Economedes took a quick lead with a pair of three pointers and deffensive pressure.
Economedes’ edge over the Bravettes didn’t last long, as the Bravettes turned up the tempo with some excellent defense, ball movement and the “Give and Go.”
Donna High went on to defeat Edinburg Economedes 74-42. It was their second meeting of the season. Their last game against each other at the Weslaco Tournament the Bravettes defeated the Jaguars 40-39.
On Tuesday the Bravettes were on another level, and the Jaguars just couldn’t keep up.
Donna High Senior Center Emily Jones blocked a shot in the paint, she took control of the ball, passed it to the outlet and took off. Moments later she was in front of the pack and received a pass for an open lay-up to extend the Bravettes lead to double digits.
The Bravettes put up 22 points in each of the first three quarters, and slowed it down to 10 in the final quarter.
Economedes had no answer for the Bravettes offense or suffocating defense.
Their avalanche of scoring came in the paint, from around the wings and downtown. Seniors Ivette Valladares and Yzella Perez knocked down multiple three-pointers and scored in the paint off lose balls and attacking the rim. The Bravettes quick lead kept growing, and growing and growing with every second that burned off the clock.
What was a 10 point lead became a 20 point lead and then a 30 point lead for the Bravettes.
By halftime the Bravettes were leading 44-19
Their lead continued to grow in the second half as the Bravettes nearly took a 40 point lead in the third quarter.

The Bravettes enter a the holiday break on a four game wining streak. Next up for the Bravettes is meeting with Edcouch-Elas on New Years Eve, Dec. 31, at home with a 2:30 p.m. tip-off.
