Bravettes host Brownsville Lopez for a duel on the basketball court

DONNA — The Bravettes got right to business on Tuesday night in their matchup with Brownsville Lopez to open District 32-5A competition at home.

After four periods of play the Bravettes shot their way to a 50-34 victory over the Lady Lobos.

Starting Center Emily Jones scored six points on the night. Power Forward Amariyah Matthews dropped 11, and went six for six from the free throw line in the first quarter.

Ivette Valladares scored two to help the Bravettes to its double digit 21-12 lead in the first quarter, while Yzella Perez chipped in 10 points, eight of those from the strip where she went 8 for 8.

Perez ended the game leading all scorers with 14, and Valladares followed with 12.

Also scoring for Donna High were Heaven Mireles, 2; Briana Duran, 2; and Emily Torres, 1.

After allowing Lopez to score 24 points in the first half, the Bravettes applied their defensive pressure in the second half holding the Lady Lobos to 10 points.

Next up for the Bravettes is a road game against Brownsville Pace on Friday, Dec. 17, at 7:30 p.m.
