Emily Jones will compete in the High Jump at the State Track and Field Tournament Friday May 7, at UT Austin. Jones earned her spot after defeating her competition on the way to becoming the 32-5A District Champion, 31-32 5A Area Champion and Region IV Regional Champion. Jones’ past performances in the High Jump leading up to District she finished first with a jump of 5’ 2 at the La Maquina Invitational on February 24. At the Mercedes Knights of Columbus Relays she finished second with a jump of 4’10 on March 5. At the Weslaco ISD Jimmy Plat Mid-Valley Classic her jump of 5’0 was good enough for a second place finish. Since her 5’2 jump at the PSJA Bear Relays held March 23 she has finished in first place. At the Area Championship Jones broke the Area record with a jump of 5’4.
