Cuevas named new Donna North head football coach, athletic director
Coach Juan Cuevas received a phone call from the Donna ISD administration with news he was selected to take over the Donna North football head coaching and athletic director job.
“I’m excited for a new chapter in my life and to be able to be a head coach in my home town where I was raised, went to school and graduated from Donna High in 1992,” Cuevas said. “To be able to come back and be able to teach and coach here for so many years and now to be able to be a head coach the Donna North Chiefs — I’m excited and extremely blessed to have the opportunity.”
Cuevas becomes the fourth head football coach at Donna North since the school opened in 2013, and the first Donna ISD alum to lead the football team. Over the last two years the program has gone 0-20.
“I feel I’m ready and ready to take on that challenge,” Cuevas said. “We’re going to create our own mark at Donna North and to me its going to be through hard work, believing in the system and creating a culture of winning.”
Donna North falls in the 32-6A District and will be facing off with Brownsville Hanna, Brownsville Rivera, Wesalco High, San Benito, Los Fresno, Harlingen High and Harlingen South.
“We are going to control what we can control, practice to win and put the best product out there on Friday night,” he said.
