Bravettes host Lady Bears Tuesday, edged by Lady Tigers in Wiseman Tourney

DONNA — The Bravettes will take the court Tuesday night against the PSJA High Lady Bears.
Tip off for the contest against the Lady Bears (14-6) is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Donna High.
Donna High (10-7) comes into the contest after taking a tough loss to the Mercedes High Lady Tigers in the semi-final round of the La Feria High 47th Annual Tommie Wieseman Classic.
The Bravettes took a four point lead in the opening moments of the game with Emily Jones scoring down low and Yzella Perez hitting two at the free throw line. At the moment it looked like the Bravettes would dominate the Lady Tigers, but it was to early in the game.
The Tigers went on a 12-0 run after hitting two consecutive three pointers to take the lead away from the Bravettes.
Jones blocked a shot and forced a turnover that ended with a score off the fast break with Perez passing the ball to Amariyah Matthews for the score to cut the Lady Tigers lead to 6-12 with 2:31 left in the first period.
Donna’s Perez tied the game 24-24 at the free throw line after forcing the Tigers to turn over the ball with their tough defense. And headed into the break down two 24-26 after being down as much as 10 in the first half.
In the second half the Bravettes would take the lead early in the third period after a steal by Briana Duran who went coast to coast and finished with an uncontested layup. They pushed their lead to 38-33 after scored in the paint.
Down the streatch both teams showed off their offense. The Bravettes with some nifty give and goes and the Lady Tigers with the three-ball forcing three lead changes as time was winding down.
At 41 all the Bravettes would see the Tigers pull away after scoring another three ball to take a thee point lead 41-44 with two minutes left in the game.
The Lady Tigers began to hold the ball to kill time. And with 5.5 seconds left following another score by Perez to cut the lead two 44-46 Mercedes would go on to score thee more times at the free throw line to end the game 44-49.
Scoring for the Bravettes were Yzella Perez, 18; Emily Jones, 9; Danna Baez; Amariyah Matthews, 5; Briana Duran, 4; Mia Pedroza, 2.
