Donna High wrestlers will compete today and Saturday for a chance to go to the Texas High School State Tournament. Julio Hernandez, Destily Martinez, Milly Rocha, Hayden Zuniga & Aicha Garza will be representing Donna High in Austin at the Region 4 Tournament.

Each wrestler have put in the work and have one thing in mind when they hit the mat, and that is to win to go to State. 

Donna High Head Wrestling Coach Raul Cardenas has the team ready as each of them have met everyday since November early in the mornings to prepare.

“Every second counts,” Cardenas tells his wrestlers as they practice and exercise to get smarter and stronger to win.

Senior District Champion Aicha Garza advanced to regionals and State last year and this year she said she will be taking care of business. “When we get on the mat there is not going to be any funny business, we’re going to be there to win.”

Garza defeated a Corpus Christi King opponent to win the title last week.

Senior Julio Hernandez said he’s heading to the tournament with the same winning mindset he’s had all year and will be putting all of his wrestling experience to the test. 

“My goal is to make it to State,” Hernandez said. “This will be my last year wrestling for Donna High.”
