Q&A with Alyson Perez, Donna High Bravettes freshman point guard

The Donna News caught up with Freshman Point Guard Alyson Perez to ask her about the basketball season and her game. Here’s what she had to say in the Meet the Bravettes Q&A:
Q: Tell us when you knew you wanted to be a Bravette basketball player, and why?
A: I knew I liked playing basketball at the age of 5. That’s when I started attend summer camps at Donna High. As time when by I knew I wanted to be a Bravette basketball player when I saw my older sister play on the Bravettes varsity team as a freshman. I told myself if she can do it, I can do it too.
Q: How excited are you to bring that winning mentality to Bravette Basketball?
A: I am very excited to show what I can bring to the court as a freshmen. I have worked very hard for may years on my skills in order to help my team.
Q: What would you say is the most important aspect of your game?
A: The most important aspect of my game is teamwork and communication. I also think it’s very important to view film to see what I did wrong and make adjustments in the next game. My sister keeps my stats for every game and I try to improve them the next game.
Q: What did you do this summer to improve your game to get ready for this season?
A: This summer I continued to train with my Basketball Coach (Mire Chatman) and my basketball team (Lady Diamond). When I’m not in season I go back to training so that I’m ready for the following season.
Q: What basketball move did you work on to showcase this season?
A: I have been working on my baseline floater all summer long.
Q: What are your team goals for this year?
A: Our team goal is to work together to advance to the playoffs. We are a young team but play with heart.
Q: What are your individual player goals for this year?
A: My individual goal is to support my team whether I’m on or off the court. I want to be able to go in and help out where needed.
Q: Who ís you favorite professional basketball player?
A: Steph Curry and Paige Bueckers.
Q: Who ís the greatest basketball player of all time?
A: Michael Jordan.
Q: What is your favorite basketball movie or video that you have watched?
A: My favorite movie is “Rise” and “Hustle.”
Q: If you could pick any university in the country to play basketball for, which one would you choose and why?
A: I would like to play for UTSA because it’s close to home and my family could go see me play.
Q: Tell us about your job on the court and what you do to help the Bravettes to victory?
A: I play the guard and post position when needed. I enjoy scoring points by driving to the basket and finishing at the hoop. I am known for always passing the ball to my open teammate when I drive to the basket. Overall, my role on this team is to be a leader and help my teammates.
Q: What is your most embarrassing play or turnover you ever made playing for the Bravettes at any level?
A: My most embarrassing moment is when I shot a 3 pointer air ball at the Varsity level.
Q: What is your favorite classroom subject?
A: Algebra
Q: What is your favorite game day hype song?
A: My favorite hype song is Lose Yourself by Eminem.
Q: What TV game show or movie series would you like to appear on?
A: I would like to appeal on Family Fude because I could take my family with me. My family is very competitive and we like to win.
Q: Who would you pick as your all time greatest starting five?
A: Steph Curry, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal and Devin Booker.
